Sample of Questions Sent

Each letter sent was critiqued to the specific business/company that it was to be sent to. Many recieved a list of 10 to 12 questions relating to coupon use, their opinions on certain topics, and even other information and requests.

few of the questions sent:
  • Scenario: Your store is running a buy one get one free sale on Product Z. A customer who is shopping at the store also has a buy one get one free manufacturer coupon for Product Z. If the customer were to use the manufacturers buy one get one free coupon along with the store special, would it:
    •  Result in 2 free Product Z?
    • The customer would need to purchase one of Product Z and receive 2 free as a result of combining the sale with the coupon (a total of 3)?
  • Scenario: A customer is purchasing 2 of Product Z (individually priced). The customer plans on using manufacturers buy one get one free coupon. Can he/she also use a “$X off of one Product Z” at the same time as the buy one get one free coupon (2 items being purchased with 2 separate coupons)?
  • A coupon has a store logo on it, yet states in fine print “manufacturers coupon.” (There has been an increased amount of these released in inserts, magazines, store flyers, and printed at registers.)
    • Can it be combined with a regular manufacturer’s coupon (those found in the weekly inserts)?
    •  If it is considered a manufacturers coupon but has a store logo on it, can it be used at a different store than that of the logo?
  •   Scenario: A customer has a “$2 off of one Product Z” manufacturer’s coupon. While shopping at a store, the customer notices that Product Z is on sale for $1. At the checkout, the register prompts the cashier when scanning the coupon. In many cases, cashiers will manually key in the price of the product, assuring that there is no overage.
    •  If the store is being reimbursed for the $2 plus handling fees, where does the resulting overage go?
    • Should the cashier honor the coupon value at the checkout?
    • If the customer were to purchase 2 of Product Z at $1 each and use the “$2 off of one Product Z” coupon, should the cashier honor the value of the coupon at checkout since the customer is purchasing $2 worth of Product Z?
  • ...and many others.
